Last week, IHCO President Carlos Zarco attended to the World Health Organisation’s Executive Board meeting, held in Geneva. His participation is part of the IHCO initiatives aimed at bringing the voice of the health cooperatives into the global health agenda as a reliable business model especially useful for the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals.
At a whole week of discussions, WHO members focused, among other issues, on the general programme of work for 2019−2023 and how to improve the efficiency of the Board and its strategic role.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom submitted a report on the strategy and the implementation plan for value for money in the international organisation, which requires a combination of five key dimensions: economy, efficiency, effectiveness, ethics and equity.
Other significant matters discussed at the Board were the preparedness and response to public health emergencies, the health impacts of climate and environmental change, and access to medicines and vaccines.
