Asia-Pacific Health Cooperatives Organization (APHCO) met in Kathmandu, Nepal, on November 13. APHCO President Dr Takaaki Fujiwara gave opening remarks, thanking phect-NEPAL for hosting the meeting and for the generous donation in the wake of the Kumamoto Earthquakes that hit Japan in April 2016. He also expressed his condolences over the sudden loss of IHCO Presidente Dr José Carlos Guisado. All the meeting participants took a moment of silence to remember and honour him.
He also expressed his condolences on the loss of many people and sincere sympathy to those who had been affected by the earthquake that hit Nepal on April 25, 2015.
Participants reported on the activities based on the 2015-2017 action plan, reviewed activity reports by different countries, discussed the financial report and approved the dates and venues of the next general meeting and board meeting.
After the board meeting, Dr Puja Lama from phect-NEPAL gave a lecture titled «Disaster Response 2015» speaking about the situation immediately after the earthquake as well as rescue and medical activities. Dr Lama described the situation immediately after the disaster, stating that they had not been prepared for the shock, not knowing what to do. She also reported that they organised a support workshop to address trauma among staff who were assisting disaster victims.
