The Board members of IHCO met in Barcelona on April 10 and 11. At the meeting, hosted by Fundación Espriu, president Dr. José Carlos Guisado reported about the last activities and future projects, highlighting a new project to support the development of health co-operatives in Mozambique.
Board members also explained new developments in their countries. FAESS president Dr. Ricardo López explained they are studying the possibility of creating social health co-operatives following the Italian example.
Unimed president Dr. Eudes Aquino explained the challenges that affected health cooperatives in Brazil and announced the celebration of the Unimed Conference in Rio de Janeiro on October 2014.
Dr. Toshinori Ozeki, Vice president of Hew Coop Japan, reported that its member organisations are trying their best to support members’ health, welfare and preventive cares, including the meal delivery service and housing supply for elderly members.
Ms. Vanessa Hammond, president of Health Care Co-operatives Federation of Canada announced the set up of Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada (CMC) born from the two former Canadian apex organisations.
